The Pacific during WW11

The Battle of Midway was one of the most decisive victories of WWII and Japans navy never recovered after this battle. On may 28th Task Force 16 led by the carrier "enterprise" and accompanied by 6 cruisers, 9 destroyers and 2 tankers set out for Midway Island. The Japanese commander Yamamoto was sure that he could gain a victory over the US navy but his plan needed to work exactly the way that he had it planned. Yamamoto hoped to lure half of the task force away by attacking Dutch Harbor but the US had cracked codes and didn't take the bait. This was really bad because the Japanese now faced the whole 16th and 17th task force. On the morning of June 14th the Japanese and US launched scouter planes and the US planes reported spotting the Japanese fleet 200 miles west south west of where they were so the force headed straight for them. Only keeping a small number of planes to protect the carriers commander Spurance sent 67 dive bombers, 29 torpedo planes, and 20 wild cat fighter planes to attack the Japanese fleet. The attack was successful all but one of the Japanese carries were sunk and the 4th was tracked down and sunk the next day.
